Quality Assurance
HM Steel & Industry Limited has never compromised on quality. Its dedication to quality has contributed to its ongoing success, highly marketable services and products.
The quality of the HM Steel Rod manufacturing process follows strict quality control from the beginning to the end of each work so that the product’s high-quality assurance is achieved.
The entire quality assurance of HM Steel consists of five important things:
- Customer Satisfaction
- Organizational Performance
- Manufacturing Excellence
- Employee Contentment
- Social Responsibility
The consistent product quality achieved by HM Steel is highly regarded by customers around the country. Such recognition is the result of years of experience and a policy of continuous improvement, combined with a Quality Management System developed according to ISO 9001:2015. And the report was tested by the Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET).
The quality control lab is furnished with advanced equipment like 100KV Universal Testing Machine, Spectrometer, Hardness Testing machine and Microscope along with various other necessary devices. These are primarily used to measure the continuous quality improvement of the products from various angles at various stages of production.
The laboratory of HM Steel & Industry consists of four units.
- Mechanical Testing Unit
- Metallographic Testing Unit
- Spectrometric Laboratory Unit.
- Chemical Laboratory Unit
Strategy
HM Steel has taken a good position in the domestic market only because of its highest quality.
We achieve quality via two broad strategies.
- Use of only high-quality raw materials as input for our operations.
- Implementation of accurate quality-control systems.
Quality Management
The entire Quality Management system passes through four levels.
- Inspection
- Control
- Assurance
- Total Quality Management (TQM).
Strict quality control measures are taken and followed at all stages of operation, right from the selection of raw materials to finished products. For this purpose, a well-equipped laboratory has been set up comprising an optical emission spectrometer, UV-spectrophotometer, carbon and sulfur determination apparatus, muffle furnace, electric oven, heating chamber, universal testing machine of 2000 KN capacity, Brielle Hardness Taster, etc. and is capable of analyzing various types of elements commonly present in steel and also various types of ferroalloys, waters and refractory materials. Physical tests such as Yield Strength, Tensile Strength, Elongation Percent, Bend Test, and Brinell Hardness Testing are carried out.
Deformed bars of HM STEEL are of good quality and conform to national and international standards such as BDS/ISO 6935:2009 & ASTM A615 grade 60, respectively. Specifications of different standards, chemical composition, and corresponding mechanical properties of deformed bars of HM STEEL are given below:

Test Frequency
At present, HM Steel produces 16 to 20 heats every day in an 18-hour operation with the help of 2 induction melting furnaces, each of 20 MT capacity. Normally, 4 to 5 samples are taken for analysis against each heat. For each sample, 30 elements (C, Si, Mn, P, S, Ni, Cr, Mo, Co, Al, Pb, W, Ti, V, B, Sb, & Sn) are analyzed. So, 50 to 60 analyses are carried out every day for quality purposes.
Procedure
For chemical analysis, we follow the optical emission spectrometry procedure as well as volumetric analysis with carbon & Sulpher determinator (strolling apparatus ). For M.S. Bar testing we follow the procedure of ASTM A-615 and BDS/ISO 6935:2016. 3 samples for every heat are taken and tested. Yield strength, Tensile strength and percentage of elongation are done. A bending test at 180° is also carried out.
